Fix It or Switch It? When to Replace Your Sewer Line

You all know the signs that there’s a problem with your sewer line: bad odors, constant drain backups, and even unusually green patches on your lawn. These are all indicators of trouble ahead. The size of the problem determines what you’ll need to do about it.

The Eye in the Line

Before anything else happens, a professional plumber will look into your sewer line with a small drain camera connected to a monitor. Both of you will see the problem, and the expert will tell you what’s wrong and how to fix it. It may involve a repair, a liner, or a full replacement.

Holding the Liner

Epoxy liners cured by hot water or steam are good options if you have minor leaks or even a small tree root intrusion. Your plumber will place the liner into the damaged section and cure it. Tree roots are removed by hydro-jetting or just dropping a rooter into the area and cutting them that way.

Time for Repairs

Even moderate cracks or leaks can be managed by a simple repair job if the sewer line’s relatively new and in otherwise good condition. Grease blockages or other types of debris won’t even need a liner. A simple hydro-jetting with pressurized water will have your drains and your sewer line back to normal.

When You Need a Full Replacement

If you have old pipes, clear signs of misalignment, or whole sections where the line’s collapsed, there’s no option except a full replacement. Large tree roots or multiple small roots can’t be dealt with by just removing them, and corroded lines full of cracks can’t just be held back with a liner. Clay or cast iron lines should be switched out as soon as possible.

If you’re still having backups after smaller repairs, then your plumber may suggest a full replacement even without visible signs of damage. If you’re renovating your home, or if you’re planning to sell your home, you may need to replace the sewer line just to get it up to code. Your expert plumber will let you know what the code says in your case.

Simple problems need an inexpensive liner that can be installed in a day. Long-term peace of mind or drainage calamities require a multi-day sewer replacement. Our plumbers will tell you what’s involved, how much it’ll cost, and how long it’ll take to get your yard back to normal. The sooner you decide on repair or replacement, the sooner that awful sewage smell will disappear. When you need sewer line repair services in Orlando, FL, contact Frank Gay.
